Pawanjot is a freelance journalist who specialises in video journalism, film direction and production. She has worked with prominent digital-first news publications in India, leading their multimedia front for over five years. Pawanjot has also worked alongside international filmmakers in various roles within a film crew. She is one of Earth Journalism Network’s multimedia grantees from 2021, and one of the shortlists of the Mumbai Press Club’s Red Ink Awards 2021 for political reporting in the TV category. Pawanjot is drawn to stories from the heart and places public-interest at the centre of her work.
Gig workers have welcomed a new law in India’s largest state Rajasthan to impose a tax on revenue earned by digital platforms that operate in the state, including global giants Uber and Amazon, even as industry groups have warned it will eventually hurt customers and derail business in the state. The new law will impose a tax on each transaction on digital platforms to fund a welfare scheme for gig workers.
